About Western Railways

Past and Present of Western Railway
Earlier, Western Railway was created on November 5th, 1951 by the merger of a number of state-owned railways, including Bombay, Baroda and Central Indian Railway, the Rajputana, Saurashtra and Jaipur railways. However, in 2002 the Jaipur and Ajmer divisions of the Western Railways were craved out and became a part of the newly created zone North Western Railways, while in April 2003 the Kota division became part of the newly created West Central Railways.
Today, Western Railway provides services to the entire state of Gujarat, the eastern portion of Rajasthan, some portions of Western Madhya Pradesh, and costal Maharashtra which has a number of ports, including Kandla, Okha, Porbandar, Bhavnagar in the state of Gujarat and Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra. |
